If you enjoy reading espionage capers, you’ll love the Status Kuo’s dramatic narrative about the successful David-beats-Goliath takedown of a third of Russia’s long-range bomber fleet. That quite possibly has remade the world of nuclear arms deterrence.
Even more deliciously, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, kept attack plans secret, even during the disgraceful “You don’t have the cards” attack by TACO and his bootlickers. For 18 months, Zelenskyy kept the mission secret, even from—or perhaps particularly from—the Trump White House, the article states.
Zelensky personally oversaw Operation Spiderweb, the secret plan to strike a devastating blow to Russia’s air power, particularly its long-range bombers that have been bombing tens of thousands of Ukrainians with cruise missiles, including schools and hospitals.
TACO reveals ignorance and hubris
As MAGA shamefully blustered and harassed our ally, TACO and his toadies revealed to the world its ignorance and hubris.
While MAGA embarrassingly insulted Zelenskyy over his attire, even as fellow Ukrainians were being murdered, his security services moved forward with their clever attack plans. (And Zelenskyy, after defeating Russia, will proudly wear a “better suit than that,” his quick retort to couch-loving JD Vance)
Speaking of hubris, the Russians, complacent that Ukraine drones could not fly from that country into theirs, never considered that drones could be launched from within Russia itself. And that is exactly what Ukraine did. They assembled their attack force under the very noses of the Russians. One assembly warehouse was reportedly near an FSB office.
Redefining modern warfare
“Ukraine just pulled off a stunning military operation, its success matched only by its sheer audacity,” wrote author Jay Kuo. “In one move, Zelenskyy reset the board not only with Russia but the entire Western alliance.
“He and his team instantly redefined modern warfare and shifted global thinking overnight on the question of nuclear deterrence.”
Say what? Consider this:
The bombers struck and destroyed comprises a key leg of Russia’s strategic nuclear arsenal. Losing a third of its bomber force overnight, and having to scramble to protect the remaining bombers, puts Russia in the position of being unable to respond fully in the event of a nuclear escalation, Kuo writes.
The other two legs are land- and sea-based. Experts wonder whether Russia’s “old and rusty” land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles can even launch and strike their targets. Submarines, the sea-based leg, can be tracked and destroyed, and their nuclear missiles are similarly untested and old.
That leaves the strategic bombers. Without that critical equipment, Russia doesn’t really have a nuclear deterrence, because it cannot assure destruction of the other side, said Kuo.
$600 Ukrainian beats $7 billion Russian
“The fact that simple drones could wipe out a third of Russia’s bomber fleet in a single day raise serious questions about the long term viability of its nuclear arsenal.” Kuo writes.
While the FPV (First Person View) drones cost only around $500 or $600 each, the damage done to the Russian bomber fleet is estimated at around $7 billion. Many of these aircraft are no longer in production and can’t be replaced, Kuo writes.
But that was just Z’s first act. Act II began with a reported bombing of the Crimean Bridge, using underwater explosives.
Orange TACO notwithstanding, Zelenskyy definitely had the cards.
Great David & Goliath story. And not a fairy tale, but real.!
