“Texas has been treated as the private property of oil executives, hedge fund managers, megachurch power brokers, and political dynasties, and we are done pretending that theft is tradition. (Texas) is sustained by the people who labor here, who raise families here, who patch roads, staff hospitals, teach kids, harvest crops, and keep communities alive in places the powerful never visit.”
So begins a manifesto published yesterday by LoneStarLeft author Michelle H. Davis. She goes on to recount the amazing struggle of Texas Democrats against the rich and powerful forces that have stolen control our state.
“This is why Texas Democrats are different,” she writes, “…our politics were forged under pressure, not comfort.” Davis concludes,“Texas belongs to the people who live here. We are done asking for recognition. We are done explaining our history to people who erase it. This is not a new politics. It is the unfinished business of a stolen democracy. And we are done waiting.”
