Laughable if it wasn’t so serious

Trump’s lack of thought and planning before striking Iran would be laughable if it wasn’t so serious. In her letter yesterday Heather Cox Richardson points out some of the failures.

Trump claims that “nobody expected” Iran to hit other countries. In fact, previous administrations had gamed out exactly what’s happening. Apparently Trump never checked or chose to ignore the findings.

In the DOGE purge the very experts needed to deal with the energy crisis were summarily fired with no transition period for pass-along of crucial information or contacts.

In September, the last of four minesweeper ships were decommissioned to be replaced with new unmanned systems that are not yet reliable enough to be deployed.

Trump’s expectation that other countries, after months of being threatened and bullied, would jump in to help clear the Strait of Hormuz was unrealistic to say the least.

Richardson reports a illuminating comment from Eric Swalwell (D-CA): Trump “has more plans for the ballroom he’s trying to build at the East Wing than anything he’s gonna do next in the Middle East.”

She goes on to discuss how the war appears to be affecting this year’s elections and Trump’s knee-jerk reaction to disenfranchise voters with the so-called SAVE Act.
