Is there a covert reason why ICE is still running operations in Minnesota?

In spite of a nation-wide outcry and numerous judicial rulings against federal actions, Trump and his lackeys show no signs of ending DHS operations in the state.

Why? One possible and chilling answer is found in Heather Cox Richardson’s piece yesterday.

She reports disturbing signs that there may be a nefarious purpose for DHS continuing occupation of the state.

  • Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote Minnesota governor Tim Walz that he could “bring an end to the chaos” by giving the Department of Justice access to the state’s voter rolls, including sensitive information on individual voters.

  • Although the federal government is not entitled to the data, the DOJ has made the same demand of 43 other states and the District of Columbia. So far, it has sued 24 jurisdictions that didn’t comply.

  • In Davos, Switzerland in his January 21 speech to world leaders, Trump restated his false claim that the 2020 presidential election was rigged, and continued, “...people will soon be prosecuted for what they did.”

  • Yesterday the FBI executed a search warrant at the Fulton County, Georgia elections warehouse, seizing ballots from the 2020 presidential election.

Richardson reports Senator Jon Ossify’s (D-GA) reaction to the incident, “This is a seismic event. This should have people across the country absolutely shook.... a shot across the bow at the midterm elections…” Ossoff warned that Americans must be prepared as Trump tries to take away Americans’ right to choose their elected officials in 2026.

Richardson concludes with a reminder of what Trump said to Republican lawmakers early this month, “You gotta win the midterms. Because if we don’t win the midterms, it’s just gonna be—I mean, they’ll find a reason to impeach me. I’ll get impeached.”

The big question is - will Trump attempt to cancel the midterms using national emergency as an excuse and ICE as a cudgel?
