Don’t let Trump use”socialism” as a cudgel!

Robert Reich points out that this administration is trying to brand all safety net provisions as socialism in order to cut them and hand even more wealth to the richest Americans. Compared to other wealthy nations, we spend very little on social insurance and programs, and Trump is trying to cut what little we do. These other nations aren’t “socialist.” They’re capitalist. But they take better care of their people.

Most Americans are good-hearted. Medicaid alone has 83 percent favorability. Among Republicans, it’s a remarkable 74 percent. They are just unaware of what’s going on. It’s our job to get it out in the open.
