Republicans in Congress have just passed a budget blueprint that puts Medicaid, SNAP, and other essential programs on the chopping block.
If you have a Republican Congressman, put them on the record as opposing Medicaid cuts. You can find your Congressman’s contact info here: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative
The budget blueprint gives Congress instructions to slash at least $1.5 trillion in spending to pay for massive tax breaks for billionaires like Elon Musk.
While Republicans deny that they’ll slash Medicaid and SNAP, it would be impossible to make such deep cuts without gutting the essential programs that working families rely on.
We need to get them on record refusing to protect vital programs.
Democrats have introduced a bill, H.R. 2753, the Hands off Medicaid and SNAP Act, which would prohibit funding cuts to either program via reconciliation. If Republicans really had no intentions of slashing Medicaid or SNAP, they would work with Democrats to pass this bill and protect these programs. And if they won’t support the bill, then their real intentions are clear.
Some House Republicans are already feeling the pressure from their constituents and recently sent a letter to Mike Johnson asking him to preserve Medicaid. Those representatives are:
Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06)David Valadao (CA-22)Young Kim (CA-40)Jeff Hurd (CO-03)Don Bacon (NE-02)Jefferson Van Drew (NJ-02)Nick LaLota (NY-01)Andrew Garbarino (NY-02)Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11)Rob Bresnahan (PA-08)Robert Wittman (VA-01)Jen Kiggans (VA-02)
The more Republicans feel the heat from us, the more likely they are to push back on these extreme cuts and slow down—or even derail—the reconciliation bill.
