“Bonkers” says Heather Cox Richardson in her January 18th blog.
As our allies push back against Trump’s bizarre demand for Greenland, the mad dictator revealed his frustration in a long screed on his Truth Social media account.
In his quest to complete his vanity project of ‘owning’ Greenland (and perhaps renaming it to ‘Trumpland’), the president is placing tariffs on all goods from the countries currently protecting Greenland. This extortion is nothing new and his modus operandi. For all of Trump’s bluster about US trade, the world appears to be moving on without us.
In the middle of chaos, deception and utter dementia, we must make a deliberate choice not to
succumb to cynicism and despair, for that is what he and his backers want most from us.
Staring into their abyss - the one they created to mesmerize and stupefy us - to try and paralyze us - won’t work. We will find our community to fight for change. Tomorrow is Martin Luther King, Jr’s Day of Service. We must search the boundaries of our life to find renewed purpose and energy to engage in some kind of service to others. Find that powerful reason to do good, to be good, to counter darkness with our own light.
Right now 19 Buddhist monks are making their way by foot to DC. Everywhere they go, local crowds flock to watch their pilgrimage. Churches and civic groups provide rest by night, food and support for the journey. We each need to find our own pilgrimage. Small ripples can and do turn into giant waves and have the power to change destinies.
This will all stop when enough of us say “NO”.
Happy MLK day! May the force be with you.
