Last Saturday a transgender woman saw a bleeding man running from an angry crowd, stopped to let him into the car, and whisked him away.
As reported in The Washington Post, 22-year-old Gottsche had no idea who he was, just a man in trouble. Turns out the man was Jake Lang, one of the Jan 6th rioters who was pardoned by Trump on his first day in office. Lang had showed up to counter-protest at an anti-ICE rally when the crowd turned ugly.
Gottsche opposes the presence of thousands of federal officers in Minneapolis, but had kept a low profile afraid for her own safety. She acted on impulse, and later said, “I don’t necessarily know if he deserved our kindness, but I would not change anything that happened… because who knows — had we not stopped, he might have died.”
Lang responded that he wanted to believe that had they known his beliefs, they still would have helped — but he doubts it,
